Star Trekkin’ across the universe

Many years ago I used to be a computer nerd and really enjoyed just writing programs on the at the local computer centre on a HP2000 Access computer system. The language was BASIC but this was a 32 user computer system and in 1974 this was considered a powerful system.

When I wasn’t writing programs with my friends, one of the things we would do was to entertain ourselves with the best game on the system, Star Trek. This was the original STTR1 and was great fun given the limits of computer systems in that era.

Now, in 2018, Im old enough to want to reminisce about the good old days to the point where I think it would be fun to recreate the computers of my past with the software of the past just so I can experience those days over again. So, with that in mind and with help of the SIMH project, I went ahead a built myself my own HP2000 Access System complete with STTR1. Of course, I made it as much like the setup of the system I used back in school even to the point of using the teaching account number that I had back then.

If you want to do it yourself, build instructions for an HP2000/Access system on SIMH are in my blog post here.
